　　故事发生在昭和21年的初夏，第二次世界大战刚刚结束，大地被战争折磨的满目疮痍。在炮火中不幸成为了孤儿的奥原夏（广濑铃饰）被善良的柴田（藤木直人饰）带到了北海道，柴田是小夏父亲的战友，他们之间曾经许下了约定，如果有一方战死了，那么另一方将要背负起照顾对方家人的责任。
